FOR BUG NIGHT we'll play it in key of C. You can play along with our friends from Codskiff in the first video in GCEA tuning, using the (D) songsheet!

Ignatius was one who enjoyed writing songs reflecting on Newfoundland's way of life and performing them. He was a good friend, and first cousin to Charlie Matthews who plays the accordion in the second video from Codskiff.

Recorded by Stuffed Squid of La Scie, NL, on their second album (No Flies On We). Mark and I had the good fortune to be invited to a wonderful family kitchen party in La Scie, Newfoundland, by Valerie and Larry Whalen. So amazingly cool! Together, Valerie and Larry not only have a wonderful business, the Outport Museum and Tearoom in La Scie, Newfoundland, but they are also members of a lively band called Codskiff that you'll hear in both videos below.

From the Dictionary Of Newfoundland English:
Tom cod - small immature codfish (Gadus morhua).
Waterloo - brand of cast-iron kitchen stoves popular in the 19th and 20th centuries which would take a birch billet probably two feet long and was often the only source of home heating.
Bunker - large bin or receptacle.
