The Dead South is a Canadian folk-bluegrass musical ensemble based in Regina, Saskatchewan. They'll be appearing on Parliament Hill on July 1, 2018!
Often jokingly referring to themselves as "Mumford and Sons' Evil Twins", the band played live venues before releasing their debut five-song 2013, The Ocean Went Mad and We Were to Blame. Their 2014 album Good Company was released by German label Devil Duck Records, and led to significant overseas touring for the next two years.
The band's third LP, Illusion and Doubt, was released through Toronto label Curve Music in 2016. It quickly climbed to number 5 in the Billboard bluegrass charts. An updated version of Good Company's single "In Hell, I'll Be in Good Company", produced by Jason Plumb, was created along with a video on YouTube, and is credited as contributing to the breakthrough release for the band.
The boost to both albums, vocalist/guitarist Nate Hilts believes, is partially due to the band’s video for ‘In Hell I’ll Be In Good Company,’ which was released in early 2016. “We were late to the game getting videos out for Good Company in general and after we did the ‘In Hell’ video in 2016 we concentrated on releasing Illusion & Doubt and put the video on the back burner. But, a few months after we released it, there was just this huge… BOOM.” Boom is a good way to put it. Currently ‘In Hell I’ll Be In Good Company’ has over 65,205,514 views on YouTube and is gaining roughly 1,000,000 views weekly.
