BEGINNERS - in the fast run-ups and run-downs in the last lines of the verses and choruses on the C songsheet, you can leave out the [Em] and the [G7]. Just hang on the preceding chord for 2 beats instead of 1. If you're using the G songsheet, you can leave out the [Bm] and the [D7] in those runs.

Gordon Meredith Lightfoot Jr. is a Canadian singer-songwriter who achieved international success in folk, folk-rock, and country music. He is credited with helping to define the folk-pop sound of the 1960s and 1970s. He is often referred to as Canada's greatest songwriter and is known internationally as a folk-rock legend.

1966 marked the release of his debut album Lightfoot!, which brought him great exposure as both a singer and a songwriter. The album featured many now-famous songs, including "For Lovin' Me," "Early Mornin' Rain," "Steel Rail Blues," and "Ribbon of Darkness". On the strength of the Lightfoot! album, which blended Canadian and universal themes, Lightfoot became one of the first Canadian singers to achieve definitive home-grown stardom without having moved to the United States to develop it.
