Red Bird is a new live music listening venue in Ottawa South with a brand new ERV (Energy Recovery Ventilator) HVAC ventilation system installed in November 2021 - ERV improves indoor air quality by providing fresh outside air. The venue is at street level with front and back doors.
SONGS: The BUG PDF Songbook that we're going to use for this August 10 jam is posted below at the top of the list. We'll display the songsheets on a screen at the front of the room. You can also download the PDF songbook and chord charts to your device if you'd like to use your own device at the jam.
WANT TO TRY LEADING A BEATLE SONG? You can choose one of the songs from our BEATLE SONGBOOK posted below at the top of the list, and if it's not already spoken for, you're welcome to try your hand at leading the group to sing it. Mark and I are happy to support you at the mic or in any way you'd like. Send your song choice (and let me know if you need it in a different key) to Sue@bytownukulele.ca DEADLINE for song choice: July 28.
OPEN MIC: We're still assessing how best to use our 2 hour time frame rather than our previous 3 hour BUG Jams. We'll sprinkle in two open mic spots this time round. If you're interested in one of the two spots, please email me, Sue@bytownukulele.ca, with the name of the song you plan on singing and the artist/songwriter. If you don't get a spot this time around, we'll slot you in during an upcoming jam. If you love open mic sessions, we'd also highly encourage you to participate in Red Bird's Open Stage every Tuesday evening and their Coffee House every Sunday afternoon.
Deadline for open mic submissions: August 1
FOOD & DRINK: PLEASE support Red Bird by ordering a drink as they offer their beautiful space to us free of charge. In addition to being licensed, Red Bird also has a small selection of light snacks, but keep in mind it it NOT a restaurant. Red Bird is very happy to work with as many local companies as they can: Local Lager, Simply Biscotti Colonnade, FNG Italian Bakery, Ashton Brewing Company, Top Shelf Distillers, The County Bounty, Saunders Hard Cider, and Seed to Sausage.
SEATING: 1000 square feet on the main floor with seats for up to 90 people, depending on setup, and the venue capacity is 100. There are some couches with side tables, regular chairs and tables, and high chairs and tables at the back and along the sides. For those of you who are more able-bodied, we'd ask that you consider taking a high stool to leave the regular seating for those that may absolutely need low seating.
ACCESSIBILITY: 6 steps up from the Bank St. sidewalk, with handrails
WASHROOMS: on main floor
PARKING: street parking and small parking lot at the south end of the building.
COVID precautions: We really want to see you but please don't come if you're not feeling well. We also hope everyone has had all the vaccines they're eligible for - Mark and I have each had our 4 vaccinations. Masks are not mandatory at this point, but you're encouraged to wear one if you have concerns.
IF YOU CAN'T JOIN US LIVE for whatever reason, no worries! We record the jam, so that you can play along with us anytime! Be sure to plug an external speaker into your computer to listen so that you'll hear the uBass and get the full effect! In the recording, no one's names appear on the screens! We'll upload the jam video and the songbook we use for the evening on our BUG Jam Videos page.
If you'd like to help Sue and Mark cover the monthly costs they pay to maintain this website, please consider making a small donation. Thank you for your support.
