We'll be playing outdoors if the weather is good - shade will be available under tent-like canopies. Chairs will be provided. It's going to be fun to play outdoors for a change! But if the forecast is for rain, we'll play inside Unitarian House in the Founders' Room. Our audiences are always so appreciative, singing and clapping along with every song!
YOU MUST REGISTER WITH SUE@BYTOWNUKULELE.CA TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS EVENT - we only have room to take 18 ukers with us!
WHEN: Saturday, June 7, 2025
TIME: 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. (please arrive between 1:30 and 1:45 to get settled)
WHERE: Unitarian House of Ottawa 20 Cleary Ave, Ottawa ON
We'll play outside in the beautiful courtyard under the shade of trees and canopies, or if rain is forecasted, we'll play indoors in the Founders' Room.
HOW TO REGISTER TO PARTICIPATE: We'll take a maximum of eighteen (18) ukulele players. I'll create a waiting list of volunteers, so email me if you'd like to participate. Please send an email with your name and phone number to Sue@bytownukulele.ca. In your email, let me know:
- if you have a music stand; and
- if you plan on using your device (such as an iPad or notebook) for your music, or whether you'd prefer to use one of our BUG Event printed binders that we'll bring with us.
SPECIAL NOTE RE BINDERS VS DEVICES:
BINDERS: The BUG Event binders are heavy, almost 2 kilograms, so your music stand should be fairly robust. We've had situations where flimsier stands tip over with the weight of the binder, the rings pop open and the music goes flying everywhere! If you have a couple of clothes pegs, bring them along to hold down the songsheets so the wind doesn't blow your pages.
DEVICES: Since this is an outdoor event, you may have trouble with reflection on your screen making it hard to see the songs on your device. This will cause you to turn the brightness up to it's highest setting, which will use up the battery fast. So you'll have to think about making sure your battery has a full charge and will last up to 2 hours with the brightness up high, and you may want to think about how you can shield your screen from glare.
PARKING: free parking in the church parking lot
MUSIC: We'll be playing songs and taking requests from the audience from the BUG Event Songbook! We'll bring lots of printed songbooks in binders. But if you'd rather use your own device to play from, you must be sure that you're using the most up-to-date version of the BUG Event PDF Songbook as I may be making revisions and changes right up until the day before the event. So set a reminder to download a copy onto your device the night before the jam.
