    FOR BUG NIGHT, WE'LL PUT THE LEAD VOCALS ON THE SCREEN, AND HAVE THE LEAD AND BACK-UP VOCALS IN THE PDF SONGBOOK

    "Happy Together" is a 1967 song from The Turtles' album of the same name. Released in February 1967, the song knocked The Beatles' "Penny Lane" out of the number one slot for three weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. It was the group's only chart-topper in the United States. "Happy Together" reached number 12 on the UK Singles Chart in April 1967 and #13 on Top 100 Singles of 1967 in Canada. The song was written by Garry Bonner and Alan Gordon, former members of a band known as The Magicians.The song had been rejected a dozen times before it was offered to The Turtles. When performing the song on television, Mark Volman commonly "played" a different instrument not present in the song for each appearance. On Ed Sullivan he "played" a trumpet, on the Smothers Brothers a piano, and on others a French horn. This could be seen as a wink to the audience that they were lip-syncing, a common practice for 1960s television.

Charles, I'd love to see the song posted in Gm! It's not a totally radical departure from Am!

We have already printed out the song in Am for the BUG songbooks in January. But if there is a compelling reason to switch and reprint it in Gm, please let me know...!

I'm so glad that you've taken the time to weigh in on a key suggestion for this song! I appreciate your ardour and I will reprint if it works better in Gm!

The only awkward chord is the Ab but you can just ignore the 4th finger on the high G, or add it after you've made the "G" chord shape. I think this might be the Turtles key.

Happy Together
written by Garry Bonner & Alan Gordon

Imagine [Cm]me and you, I do
I think about you [Bb]day and night, it's only right
To think about the [Ab]girl you love and hold her tight
So happy to[G]gether

If I should call you up, invest a dime
And you say you belong to me and ease my mind
Imagine how the world could be, so very fine
So happy together

{c: refrain}
[C]I can't see me [Gm7]lovin' nobody but [C]you for all my [Eb]life
[C]When you're with me, [Gm7]baby the skies'll be [C]blue for all my [Eb]life

Me and you and you and me
No matter how they toss the dice, it has to be
The only one for me is you, and you for me
So happy together
{c: refrain}

{c: repeat 3rd verse}

[C]Ba-ba-ba-ba [Gm7]ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-[C]ba ba-ba-ba-[Eb]ba
[C]Ba-ba-ba-ba [Gm7]ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-[C]ba ba-ba-ba-[Eb]ba

{c: repeat 3rd verse}

{c: coda:}
[Cm]So happy to[G]gether [Cm]
How is the [G]weather [Cm]
So happy to[G]gether [Cm]
We're happy to[G]gether [Cm]
So happy to[G]gether [Cm]
Happy to[G]gether [Cm]

etc.
